Director :
Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Producer :
Kishore Lulla and Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Music Director :
Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Release Date :
November 15, 2013

Rating :
4.0/5.0

The Story :
Well after Vishal Bhardwaj it's the turn of Sanjay Leela Bhansali to make the genius William Shakesphere proud in heaven. The classic Shakespearean romantic tragedy Romeo Juliet gets updated in today's Gujarat by Bhansali, Garima and Siddharth. So here are Rajadas and Sanadas at logger heads since five hundred years..

One day a Rajada Ram (Ranveer Singh) bumps into a Sanada Leela (Deepika Padukone) its lust at first sight and love later. Hell breaks loose when the secret is out and how Ram and Leela love triumphs against hate, slaughter and betrayal finds the crux of the film.

What is it all about? :
Superb. Sheer brilliance. Take a bow Sanjay Leela Bhansali. What a sexy, innovative and memorable sumptuous feast for eye and ear. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has stunned William Shakeshphere's four century plus old play with such ambition, passion and imagination that this genuinely fresh take on an oft-told tale of Romeo and Juliet is so daringly energetic, inventive, innovative and colorful but in no way shies away from its touching, poetic innocence. Excellent.

What to look out for :
Its sheer vintage Bhansali and this time he is in his complete element. This movie is visual stunner. The grandiosity placing and set design is exceptional. Wasiq Khan production designing is simply marvelous. Its love at first sight for your eyes. Its astounding to see SLB's cinematically vibrant colourfully loud and emotionally clear art framing the sea of Shakespeare's genius in Gujarat shot by shot thanks to Ravi Varman's exceptional camerawork. The song picturisations are dazzlingly very stylish.

The entry of the two angels Ranveer and Deepika in this love story is so stunning.. SLB credentials as a story teller was never questionable. Be it Khamoshi, Black, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas or Guzaarish. Ram - Leela is SLB's answer to those who doubt his commercial versatility and here he gets its right for the viewer's ticket price without compromising on his belief of cinema and sticking to his roots. No mean achievement at all.

Maxima Basu and Anju Modi costume is according to the mood, colour and flavor of the film. Editing by Bhansali and Rajesh Pandey is up to mark.

Shruti Mahajan and Parag Mehta's casting is perfect. The chemistry between Ranveer and Deepika is smoking hot and scintillating. Sexy.

They both share the honour for featuring in b-town's most passionate kiss in recent times. They set the screen on fire whenever they come together. Deepika Padukone makes a breathtaking Leela merging strength, vulnerability, character into one. Looks stunning and is simply amazing. Deepika is the heart of the film.

Ranveer Singh is a revelation as Ram sensuous, unafraid, spectacular and bang on in his accent. If Deepika is the heart then Ranveer is the beat in this Rome Juliet in Gujarati heat.

Bhansali Film without the great Indian music is incomplete. And Ram - Leela music is a major highlight. Sniffed in Gujarati folk pride and semi classical routes Bhansali churns out gems like 'Lahu Munh Lag Gaya', 'Nagada Sang Dhol Baaje', 'Tattad Tattad', 'Ang Laga De' and 'Ram Chahe Leela' all are topping charts.

Monty Sharma's background score adds more vibrant energy and boost the proceedings. The supporting cast does a great job where Supriya Pathak stands out and is simply terrific. Gulshan Devaiah is excellent. Richa Chadda very very good. Abhimanyu Singh is fine.

Priyanka Chopra in 'Ram Chahe' sets the stage on fire.

What not :
The length could have been shorter. Bhansali has remarkably managed the intensity throughout the unnecessary use of foul language to sensationalize the proceedings could have being avoided. Some narrow minded traditional may not like this broad and open tunes and the flashy sets of this daringly beautiful adaptation.

Conclusion :
Ram - Leela is the most energetic, visually spectacular, daring and extremely passionate film of the year. Ram - Leela will be remembered as the bold and beautiful turning point for Bhansali and Eros.

Rajjo Movie Review | Ratings

Cast :
Kangna Ranaut, Mahesh Manjrekar, Prakash Raj, Jaya Prada, Paras Arora, Tanushree Chakraborty, Dalip Tahil

Banner :
Four Pillars International Pvt Ltd

Director :
Vishwas Patil

Producer :
M H Shah and U A Karande

Music Director :
Uttam Singh

Release Date :
November 15, 2013

Rating :
4.0/5.0

The Story :
Writer director Vishwas Patil's Rajjo is a love story, or a film on women empowerment or a stark reality on Kothas and flesh trade is not clear. A popular and in demand nautch girl Rajjo (Kangna Ranaut)meets a college lad Chandu (Paras Arora) who visits the place with his cricket team owner as a treat for wining a match. Chandu belongs to a middle class Maharashtrian family and is a teenager (god knows why the censor asked the makers to declare the age of the boy as 21 in the film it killed its innocence completely. Anyways its love at first sight for Chandu. Rajjo also finds solace in Chandu's company. The Brothel or Kotha is run by eunuch Begum (Mahesh Manjrekar) he is fighting his own battle of a possible evacuation of his Kotha for a commercial building. If we were still to digest and get in these two plots bangs come another of a politician Handa Bhau (Prakash Raj), desires Rajjo for commercial benefits and chasing her even after she gets married to Chandu by the help of Begum. The rest is how deliberately Patil tries to complete these three plots in one film and goes horribly wrong without giving proper justice to any of them.

What is it all about? :
A mind blowing experience really. Rajjo is a bad example of an interestingly intriguing idea going kaput. Vishwas Patil is a versatile personality he is an IAS officer, historian and an award winning author (Panipat) is his most acclaimed work. Probably as an historian and as an author he must have watched the legendary Indian movies on Kotha's and Kotewalis like Salam Bombay, Mandi, Bazaar, Tawaif, or Dastak (environmentally ) or even Sadak, Chandini Bar, Chameli to that matter. But sadly he couldn,t just get it right at any point or any time in those 2+ hours. Or maybe he has not watched those above mentioned game changers so positively he can watch them again and give it another try. The result will be remarkably different anyways he can keep Kangana as the central character as she does a marvelous job. Coming back to the film 'Rajjo' is like a decently decorated mannequin (as a nautch girl) outside a shop you can see her but cannot feel her.

What to look out for :
Kangana Ranaut is very striking and gives a pious and fantastic performance. It's a women oriented solo for her and that's not everyone's cake but the actress who has just shot great guns as a human chameleon in Krrish 3 is brilliant. She dances very well. Looks beautiful and her emotions are bang on. Uttam Singh's music is in sync with the flavor of the film. The environment and settings of the Mumbai's Red Light area is nicely done by Muneesh Sappel . First timer Paras Arora is okay. Upendra Limaye leaves his mark.

What not :
Rajjo has seven National Award winners coming together for the film and apart from Kangana and Upendra Limaye rest of all disappoint including Prakash Raj and Mahesh Manjrekar. To cut the story short. The movie which starts on an interestingly stark note gives itself so easily for convenience in the proceedings that it becomes unable to digest. The vision is there but the execution is as unbelievable as an empty Virar local in Mumbai. So amateurish. And mind you its just one of the many loopholes.

Conclusion :
Rajjo is vision that lacks the desired execution. Even Kangana's acting and dancing thunders cannot save this cinematic blunder which boost of seven national award winners to its cast and credit list.

Krrish 3 Movie Review | Ratings

Cast :
Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Vivek Oberoi, Arif Zakaria, Kangna Ranaut, Shaurya Chauhan, Rakhi Sawant

Banner :
Filmkraft Productions

Direction :
Rakesh Roshan

Production :
Rakesh Roshan

Music Directosr :
Rajesh Roshan

Release Date :
November 1, 2013

Rating :
4.3/5.0

The Story :
Rakesh Roshan takes the story further with the help of Robin Bhatt, Honey Irani,Irfan Kamal, and Akarsh Khurana's screenplay without adding much layers but spreading a message that says there is a superhero in everyone. The movie starts with a quick recap of the previous two installments and we see Krishna (Hrithik Roshan) happily married to Priya (Priyanka Chopra). Father Rohit Mehra (Hrithik again) is scientist dreaming of bringing life back again with the help of sun rays.

Kaal (Vivek Oberoi) is the goliath in this devil v/s goliath saga Kaal has created his own army of "maanvars", a combination of man and animal and he wants to rule the world.

One of his main weapons Kaaya (Kangana Ranaut) is a human chameleon.

The rest is how Krrish saves his family and the world.

What is it all about? :
The third installment of Krrish does sets the bar on India's ability to pull a sci fi super hero on its soil and technically it lives up to its expectations but this desi superhuman circus favours more to the comic -con nerds and less to the non sci fi and others.

What to look out for :
Rakesh Roshan and Red Chillies take the credit for bringing India at par with Hollywood in the CGI department. Yes we had seen the magnificent Rajnikanth starrer Robot which was at par with the international standards but what makes Krrish 3 remarkable is the fact that the special effects are done here and not imported from west. Big achievement.

Rakesh Roshan smartly uses the themes of the previous installments to build an entertainer and introduces Krrish with that mind-blowing sequence of saving the plane from crash landing. Siu-Tung Ching and Sham Kaushal action is spectacular. Salim Suleiman background is fantastic. Chandan Arora editing is sharp. Production values are exceptional.

Special mention needs to be made for Mike H.G. Bates and Mike Stringer for their exceptional make up job.

Hrithik Roshan reserves his best for Rakesh Roshan and here B-town most handsome man and the best body dancer is superb. As Rohit Mehra he climbs steps further as an actor and as Krrish he is simply stunning and as Krishna he is so likable. Hrithik gives it all over here. he is first rate.

Vivek Oberoi is sensational his presence spreads terror on screen and that's something for an actor. Though Hrithik is the biggest USP but it owes to Vivek Oberoi's cruel portray of villainy in the movie that makes this David v/s goliath saga absorbing till the end.

Priyanka Chopra fits the bill and Kangana Ranaut does a remarkable job.

What not :
The movie does sets the bar India's ability to pull a sci fi super hero on its own. Great. Superb. But why stick to those banal roots and rely on those mundane gimmicks of unnecessary song and dance. Kaaya falling for Krrish and dying in his arms.

All this could have being tolerated if Rakesh Roshan had made the first half gripping with more action and CGI vow moments but alas after the stunning plane sequence there is a long wait for the next action packed happening in this super hero flick.

The second half pumps up the momentum and that is what we want to see in an CGI super hero flick. Not minding even if we get reminded of the X-Men in its due course.

Conclusion :
Made In India Krrish 3 dazzling special effects is a treat for those comic -con nerds who doesn,t care to see what's beneath or beyond in a movie.

Salman gets permission to shoot abroad

After Kick's Glasgow shoot got stalled owing to Salman's visa issues, due to the pending black buck case, now the actor can finally heave a sigh of relief. The Rajasthan High Court stayed the five year jail term of the actor in the black buck poaching case and now, he has also been given the permission to travel abroad.

Sajid Nadiadwala's directorial debut suffered monetary loss previously because Salman Khan could not travel abroad without the visa permit and the reason for his visa denial was his involvement in the black buck poaching case. On Tuesday, Justice Nirmal Jeet Kaur ruled the case in favour of the actor and granted him the permission to travel abroad after the defence argued that his visa denial will affect his right to livelihood.

An elated Sajid Nadiadwala expressed his relief and revealed that he will soon start shooting with the actor abroad.

Kick also stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Randeep Hooda and is slated to release in July 2014.

Sunny Deol rubbishes speculations on Karan's debut

"It's too premature to talk about it. I've still not decided how my son (Karan Deol) will be launched" Reacting to media reports that Karan's debut film will be directed by Gadar-Ek Prem Katha director Anil Sharma. "We will take a call and announce it but kisi bewakoof ne ja kar kahan se kya likh diya. Sorry to say that par har qoum mein aise bhi log hote hain jo aisi cheezen phelaane mein expert hote hain (I'm sorry to say but in every profession there are gossip mongers who speak or write without verifying facts)," said Sunny.

On being asked if Anil Sharma won't be directing Karan's debut film, Sunny said, "I'm speaking to loads of directors, obviously why not Sharma ji also. It's not that I don't want to do with him. But I still haven't decided mere bete ki pehli film kya hogi, that's the basic question." When we asked Anil Sharma about the media speculation surrounding Karan's debut, Sharma told us, "It's too early to talk about it. Karan abhi bachcha hai. When Sunny Sahab will plan it tabka tab dekhenge."

Court orders stay on Ram-Leela's release

A Delhi Court has decided to stay the release of Ram-Leela owing to its rather bold content. The film has already faced controversies before when a Rajput community filed a case on the film alleging that it may create religious conflicts amongst communities.

Now, a law suit has been filed against the film by six petitioners including a Hindu outfit named Prabhu Samaj Dharmik Ram Leela Committee accusing that the film with a mythological title like 'Ram Leela' contains sex, violence and vulgarity. They also claim that people will watch the film under the misconception that it contains religious values and showcasing such bold scenes will hurt the sentiments of Hindus.

Talking about the recent debate about Ram-Leela, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has responded to these claims by stating that the film contains no mythological elements but is a love story of two individuals, Ram and Leela and is an Indian take on the Shakespearean romance, Romeo and Juliet.

"The forthcoming film Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela has been censored by the Central Board of the Film Certification under the Cinematograph Act, 1952 and granted UA Certificate on 01.11.2013. The said film is slated for release throughout the World including India on 15th November 2013. It appears that some misinformation is being carried out regarding the said film which I would like to clarify and state that the said film is inspired and based on work of William Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet'. The said film is neither related to 'Ramleela' - folklore/traditional performance associated with Lord Ram nor related to 'Rasleela' associated with Lord Krishna. I trust that this clarifies all doubts and misgivings," said Bhansali.
